Thank you Dave. I will check out Perkei. Re spirituality, trouble may be that I do too much reality testing. If blues made me feel as though I had experienced spir, I would ask myself whether it was real or just some extreme psychological sensation resembling it. Very difficult but not giving up yet. Interesting lecture once talked about how most people do not find God in synagogue but in special experiences (like blues).

Now there\'s a challenge. There is a work called Pirkei Avos (Ethics of the Fathers). I especially favour the edition commented upon by Rabbi Dr Berel Wein. It is not an overtly religious work but as a guide to life it\'s unparalleled. Check it out on Google. How you live, your sensitivity towards others, the insights you can learn into your own psyche - these are dealt with in a way that no other creed can come close to. Re spirituality - that\'s personal. For me, it\'s the blues.

I find the subject of your last post mesmerizing but elusive. To know, but to know in a non-specific, non-literal way, one must have experienced God spiritually. The doctrines of Infidel, Jihad and Kuffir, the phrase Army of God, the whole martyr thing - these are surely blasphemies against Islam. Even Allahu Akhbar seems to me to be blasphemous. G-d has no qualities resembling those of mankind, and calling G-D great is actually limiting and diminishing Him. And to claim to now G-d\'s will in some vague unspecific way is the ultimate arrogance.

The pas.sivity of Peaceful Islam is brought into higher relief by your words. The limited number of Muslims who seem to be genuinely peace-loving see only the book itself. I do not know if this lack of peripheral awareness reflects brainwashing to be good followers or fear of seeing the truth that the Quran has somehow failed to carry a people to a place of grace in the real world. Failure of a book accepted in place of independent thought would be devastating.
